Origin Species
Elementals
The Elementals, also known as Elementalkin, are the oldest species in existence, shaped by the hands of the True God of Magic to manage the diverse energies of the world. Because of their ancient, solitary purpose, they are entirely disconnected from the social behaviors and daily needs of organic life. They live without any concept of community, preferring to remain completely on their own. Their method of reproduction is equally solitary. To create another of their kind, an Elemental must simply admire an object deeply enough to bestow a small piece of their own essence upon it. This act transforms the object, turning ordinary quartz into elemental quartz, for example. Over the course of a few hundred years, this material matures until a new quartz elemental is born.
This isolation does not mean they completely ignore the rest of the world, as Elementals actually find joy in helping others. However, because they do not comprehend the mechanics of organic life, their assistance can seem incredibly bizarre. They understand the basic, physical necessities of survival, meaning they will gladly provide water to a thirsty traveler or make it easier for a freezing soul to start a fire. Yet, their aid stops at the physical. They would never think to alert a search party or guide a traveler home, even if the person they are helping is desperately lost. To an Elemental, the very concept of being lost does not exist, leaving them unable to understand why anyone would need, or want, to be found.
Beastkin
The Beastkin stand as the second oldest species on Endra. Given existence by the True Gods Of Herbivores and Carnivores they are a proud and widespread people, they inhabit every corner of the globe and even rule over their own dedicated continent. On their homeland, they willingly choose a nomadic, tribal life over permanent settlement. Throughout the rest of the world, Beastkin have adapted to civilized life in diverse ways. In the Scoria Desert, the Catkin tribes live as wandering clans, operating out of tents and engaging in both trade and warfare with neighboring realms. Conversely, across the broken continent of Mak’Ta, the Beastkin are woven directly into the fabric of everyday civilization, inhabiting bustling towns and cities with a reputation for being open and respectful. However, the Beastkin of Veruna, their continent, hold a much darker view of the outside world. While they welcome fellow Beastkin from other lands or those who resemble their kind, they are deeply isolationist and openly hostile to any outsiders, extending this animosity even to the other Origin Species.
Plantkin
Brought forth by the True God of Plants, the Plantkin are considered the third oldest species, created either at the same time as the Beastkin or shortly thereafter. Their appearance spans a massive spectrum, including small winged creatures resembling fairies, colossal walking trees, and various humanoid or animalistic forms of varying intelligence. They inhabit almost every environment on the planet, including the oceans, where they exist as living underwater plants. In the lands of Veruna, they face constant danger, as they are regularly hunted and eaten by herbivorous Beastkin. Elsewhere, wild Plantkin are feared for the violent defense of their territories. Any creature attempting to harvest plant matter risks a lethal retaliation, and stories of loggers choked by vines or beavers impaled near riverbanks mean that mercenaries are constantly hired to clear them out. In contrast to their wild cousins, civilized Plantkin integrate seamlessly into diverse societies and maintain excellent relationships with other races. These peaceful individuals even join expeditions into the wilderness to serve as translators, helping to negotiate non-violent resolutions with territorial wild plants.
Dragonkin
Boasting a massive variety of forms, the Dragonkin, known natively as the Doga’an, are even more diverse in appearance than the Beastkin and Plantkin combined. They are the descendants of the True Dragons, and their physical features are determined by their specific draconic lineage and the non-draconic parent involved. True Dragons are capable of breeding with any creature in existence of sufficient size, reproducing in either their draconic or non-draconic forms. Regardless of their disparate physical traits, all Dragonkin are highly intelligent and share an absolute capability to communicate with one another. When it comes to faith, the Doga’an are entirely monolithic. They acknowledge and respect the True Gods, but their active worship is directed strictly toward the True Dragons, without a single outlier in their society.
